Overhead system upgrade planned for Marshalltown area

Overhead line rebuild to increase reliability

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – February 3, 2010 – Crews from Interstate Power and Light Co. (IPL), an Alliant Energy company will be doing an overhead system upgrade in Marshalltown. This is part of the company’s continuing effort to upgrade facilities to ensure the safety and reliability of the electric system. The work will be completed over the next two weeks.

As part of the upgrade, Alliant Energy will be installing new primary electric lines and poles. Periodic service interruptions can be expected during this time between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. A service person may knock on resident’s doors prior to any interruption in service, but due to time constraints of the project, this may not always be the case.

The overhead system upgrade may require access to personal property – both in the front and back yard. It is the company’s intention to complete this project with little inconvenience to customers.

The overhead line rebuild will affect Marshalltown residents in between Woodbury St. and Bromley St, from 4th Ave. to just east of 8th Ave. Customers affected by this overhead system upgrade are being notified by letter. Customers relying on continual power for medical and operational reasons are receiving personal calls.

“We appreciate our customer’s patience during the work on this project,” said Jeff Haley-Senior Customer Operations Manager, Alliant Energy. “Their support is crucial to the safe and timely completion of this pole relocation project.”
